Back to School: 4 Tips for a Successful Virtual Semester

All across the country, colleges are starting back up in a way they never have before: socially distant and, in some cases, totally online. Even if you’re attending classes virtually for now, it’s still important to get into a good routine for the school year to ensure that you’re remaining productive and healthy all semester long! Here are four ways to develop and maintain a great environment for living and learning in your apartment:

Study area

Designate a section of your bedroom or living room as your study area, and remove all surrounding distractions. Arrange your desk, laptop, textbooks, and anything else you need for school here to ensure that whenever you’re sitting in this space, you’re completely in the learning zone!

Meal prep

Students are notoriously unhealthy eaters, but it’s crucial to make sure that you’re eating right, both to give yourself energy for the day and to keep your immune system in good shape. To keep yourself from eating junk food or skipping meals when you don’t have anything in the fridge, download or draw up a simple meal prep schedule! By keeping track of the groceries you need and designating certain days just for cooking, you can ensure that you’ll always have healthy options on hand.

Self care

Taking a full course load of intense classes can be stressful, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to relax and unwind at the end of the day! Set the tone by turning down harsh overhead lights, lighting some candles, and playing some relaxing music before making time for self care, whether that means watching a few episodes of your favorite show, treating yourself to an at-home facial, or just eating a bowl of ice cream on the couch.

Working out

It can be difficult to make it to the gym or your usual workout classes due to social distancing rules, but exercising is as important as ever to stay in shape and boost both your mood and your immune system! Develop an at-home workout routine by purchasing some simple equipment such as a yoga mat and weights, kettlebells, or resistance bands so that you can participate in a variety of workouts. If you typically attend group workouts and want to maintain a similar class environment, find a guided video series that works for you, whether via apps like Nike Training Club or Peloton or simply browsing YouTube.

These four tips will help you stay focused and on-schedule all semester long, no matter what changes your school decides to make. Are you a student still looking for an apartment in San Antonio or Austin? View all of our beautiful properties and find the perfect apartment for you here
